Raymond Howard Mintle, 84, of Glenwood, Iowa entered into eternal rest on November 12, 2004 at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. Howard was born in Glenwood, Iowa to Raymond Hiatt and Florence (Nelson) Mintle on February 1, 1920.

Howard graduated from Glenwood High School in 1938 and served in the Army National Guard Company I 168th Infantry from 1938-1950. He enlisted in the service during WWII and was held POW in North Africa. He escaped to Poland in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Howard was united in marriage to Genevieve Eldora Kizzier to June 2, 1941 in Louisiana while he was in the service. To this union two sons were born, Justin and Ted.

For 27 years, Howard owned Mintle Company, an appliance and furniture store on the Glenwood square. This business continues today as Don’s Furniture and Appliances. In addition, Howard owned several other properties in Glenwood and farmland in Mills County. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and served on the church’s administrative board, Glen Haven Board for 30 years, Glenwood Masonic Lodge #58, Glenwood Cemetery Board, Chamber of Commerce, Mills County Historical Museum, Mills County Earth Lodge, American Legion and the Glenwood City Council. Howard was also the recipient of several national awards given by the Frigidaire and Gibson appliance companies.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Genevieve. He is survived by his children, Justin and his wife Debbie of Glenwood, Iowa, Ted and wife Lyn of Glenwood, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kristen and Jennifer of Austin, TX, Cari of Houston, TX and Derek of Glenwood, IA; sister, Louise R. (Mintle) Schneckloth; brother-in-law, Ervin (Kudge) Kizzier; four nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the Mills County Museum or Glenwood High School Athletic Association.

Funeral services were held at Peterson Mortuary on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Paul Crane and Pastor Dave Weesner officiating. Burial was in the Glenwood, Iowa Cemetery. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
