November 18, 2004Richard L. Vanatta, age 86 of Tabor, IA, died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, IA following an extended illness. Richard was born January 16, 1918 near Tabor, IA to Guy E. Vanetta and Mae E. (Dyke) Vanatta. Richard served with the U.S. Army during World War 11. He worked at Lake’s Nursery and later Mt. Arbor Nursery as a Supervisor in Shenandoah for a total of nearly 40 years.
Richard was preceded in death by is parents; wife, Jenny “Irene” (McCreedy) Vanatta; sister, Lola Forney; and three brothers, Cleo (Bud), Junior and Ray Vanatta. He is survived by his sons, Dick Vanatta and wife Sherry of Red Oak, IA and Roger Vanatta and wife Dixie of Stockton, MO; six grandchildren, Linda Holmgren, Sally Johnson, Jessica Wright, Clint Vanatta, Kelly Vanatta and Corey Endicott; 11 great grandchildren, Jennie and Kyle Doty, Lexis and Madison Holmgren, Tristin and Tanner Johnson, Hannah and Caleb Wright, Riley and Halle Jo Vanatta, and Libby Endicott; two brothers, Jim Vanatta of Tabor, IA and Wayne Vanatta of Thurman, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA with Judy Wooton and Rev. Dean Surface officiating.. Visitation was open after 5:00 p.m. Monday and the family greeted friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Chapel. Memorials go to the Tabor Rescue Squad and interment was in the Tabor, IA Cemetery. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA was in charge of arrangements.
Patti Bateman was in charge of the memory book. Flower committee were Lou Ann Collins, Mary Lou Dinville, Julaine Vanatta and Barbara McCollum.
Recorded music was “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill and “On Eagles Wings”.
Pallbarers were Tom Vanatta, John Vanatta, Donald Vanatta, Lyndal Vanatta, Jerry Vanatta, Brian Vanatta, Jimmy Vanatta and Calvin Vanatta.
Military rites were by the Rommel-Conklin VFW Post #7064 of Tabor, Iowa.
