August 26, 2004Russell D. Curtis, 71, of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on August 21, 2004 at his home in Glenwood. He was born September 28, 1932 in Mason City, IA to George Fredrick and Erma Ellen (Kephart) Curtis.
Russell lived in the Mills County area most of his life. He was united in marriage to Allene Yates on October 13, 1964 in Elko, Nevada. Russell was employed with Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years. He was also co-owner of Bargain Spot antique store in Plattsmouth with Allene for many years. He loved antiquing, collecting clocks of all varieties, boating and fishing with his family, and it was said that he never sat idle. He loved to be kept busy. Russell was a member of the Glenwood American Legion Post and faithfully served his country during the Korean War in the Army.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and wife Allene on April 27, 2003. He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Teena and husband Dennis Roker of Glenwood, IA. and sons Phil and Andy, Nancy and husband Mark McVay of Glenwood, IA. and children Megan, Myranda and Mitchell, Laura and husband Gary Fowler of Valley Falls, KS. and children Tyler, Paige, Sierra, Curtis and Dustin; three sisters, Wanda Younger of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Wave and husband Code Pierce of Sidney, IA, Donna Ball of Glenwood, IA; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services were held at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood on Wednesday, August 24, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dean Surface and Gary Moles officiating. Burial was in the Glenwood, Iowa Cemetery.
Memorials go to Kidney Research or American Heart Association. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
