Marilyn Joan “Jody’ Twaddle, 81, of Emerson, died Nov. 25, 2004, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in Villisca. An open visitation will be held at the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. An Order of Eastern Star Service, given by the Emerson Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, will be held at 3 p.m. that same day at the funeral home. Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2 p.m.. at the Emerson Cemetery. Rev. Christina Franks will officiate the services.

Mrs. Twaddle was the daughter of Bernard and Anna Fern (McLaughlin) Read, born June 14, 1923, in Nodaway. On May 11, 1941, she married Donald Twaddle in Rock Port. Mo. They made their first home on a farm near Emerson and were blessed with three sons. In 1956, the family moved into Emerson. Mrs. Twaddle enjoyed her role as a mother and working with other children. She helped with the Methodist Youth Fellowship and youth choir in Hastings and was a Mother Advisor to the Glenwood Rainbow Girls, which involved five area communities. She later helped start the Emerson Chapter of the Rainbow Girls and was installed as the Grand Chapter Committee Person for the Order. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed teaching and was a certified Montessori preschool teacher at the Glenwood State Hospital-School. In later years, her love was her small dog, T.D. Darlin, whom she cared for dearly.

Mrs. Twaddle was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Kyle Twaddle, grandson Todd Twaddle, great-granddaughter Genesis Abeyta and brother Kenneth “Kick” Read. She is survived by sons Kenneth Twaddle of Denver, Colo., and Donald Twaddle of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Emerson United Methodist Church. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
