Mills County Tribune
February 14, 1901Mr. Geo. L. Wrenwick died at his home in Glenwood Monday morning at 3 o’clock after an illness lasting several weeks. He was first stricken with paralysis and this ailment was subsequently complicated with dropsy and heart trouble and the three combined finally resulted in death as was stated. The deceased was born in Carmi, White County, Illinois, June 10, 1830, and in consequence was in his seventy first year. He moved to Mills County in April of 1853 and thus can justly lay claim to have been one of our oldest settlers. He came to Glenwood when there was nothing but a brush patch here abouts and it was he who built the first log cabin erected in the town. He was married to Eliza B. Evans June 29, 1856. Seven children have resulted from this marriage, viz, John, Charles and Ed, and Mrs. Walter L. Brown, Mrs. Henry J. Baird, Mrs. Chas P. Hamilton and Mrs. Joe. Moore. The last named is dead, the remaining six together with Mrs. Wrenwick survives the father and husband. For almost the ---a half century that he has resided in these parts Mr. Wrenwick has been closely identified with everything that has gone for the improvement of Glenwood. He will be missed by Glenwood’s entire population as well as by very many of the older settlers throughout the county who have known him for many years.
The funeral services were held at the residence, at 2 o’clock, Tuesday afternoon. The remains were followed to their last resting place in the Glenwood cemetery by a large concourse of people who desired to pay their last respects to their dead neighbor and friend.
