Roland M. Lenz, 90, of Des Moines died July 4, 2001. Funeral services were July 9, 2001 at Peterson Mortuary with burial in the Glenwood Cemetery. Rev. Ross Boyce officiated the services.

Mr. Lenz was the son of Emil and Freda (Kippen) Lenz, born December 20, 1910 in Newton. He attended school in Newton, leaving high school at the age of 16 to earn his own keep. He worked in the theaters in Newton, later moving to other small towns in Iowa where he operated the movie theaters. He was in that line of business until he entered the military service in June, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged in February, 1946. His service took him to the Southeast Asia region. He was married to Thelma Kuhl March 29, 1946 in Davenport. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Des Moines where he went into the electrical business and then into the radio and TV business working for wholesale companies, and retiring in 1972. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Des Moines, American Legion Post #374 and National Association of Federal Retirees. His hobbies were coin collecting, fishing, traveling and gardening.

He was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife; brothers, Leonard Lenz of Parkersburg and Robert Lenz of Marion; brothers-in-law, Fred Kuhl of Pacific Junction and Norman Kuhi of Branson, Mo.; and sister-in-law, Mary Corey of Des Moines.

Memorials are suggested to Mt. Olive Lutheran School Building Fund or American Legion Post 374, Des Moines.
