Monroe R Parker Died at Marshalltown - - Monroe R. Parker, a former resident of Hastings and a long time resident of Mills county, died at the Soldiers' home at Marshalltown, Iowa, Saturday morning, Jan. 25.

The body was brought to Hastings and funeral services held in the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:30.

Rev. C.L. Pullman of the Methodist church at Strahan conducted the services assisted by Rev. W.J. Weber, pastor of the Hastings church. A quartet, Mrs. Fred Lookabill and Mrs. Fred Priest, Charles Anderson and Floyd Owens with Miss Ardith Owens as accompanist, sang. - - The pall bearers were: J.W. Bowman. W. E Purcell, Ed Hathaway, W.S. Young, N.W. Colling, and Semon Cox. Burial was made in the South Grove cemetery.

Monroe R. Parker was born in Brookline, New Hampshire on Nov. 3, 1846. He died at the Soldiers' home at Marshalltown, on Jan. 24, 1930 at the age of eighty-three years, two months, and twenty-two days.

In the spring of 1865 he enlisted in the Union army and was honorably discharged at the closing of the war. In September, 1868, he was married to Selina B. Shaw who died in the spring of 1928. To this union was born seven children, three of whom died in infancy. Those remaining to mourn his loss are: Mrs. John Honeyman, Emerson, Iowa; Mrs. John Dahl, Camp Crook, South Dakota; Roy E. Parker, Strahan, Iowa; and Mrs. O.J. Hillensbeck, Omaha, Nebr. In the spring of 1872 he came west to Omaha and later settled on a farm three miles southwest of Hastings. With the exception of six years spent in South Dakota his life has been spent in this part of Iowa. He endured all the hardships and privations of a pioneer.
