Malvern Leader
Thursday, April 6, 1916

Death of Isaac Dice - - The funeral of Isaac Dice mention of whose death was made in last week's Leader was held from the late residence Thursday afternoon at two o'clock and was attended by a large concourse of his old time friends and neighbors.

The sermon was preached by Rev. R. Bruce West of the Presbyterian church and a special choir, Messrs. S.S. Foster and Fred Stone and Messdames L.A. Talbott and J.H. Beckwith sang. The casket lay in the front room of the old home he had so long occupied and was draped with the flag of his country for which he fought in "61" and to which he was ever so loyal. Many beautiful flowers testified to the love and esteem in which he was held. The remains were laid to rest in the Malvern cemetery in which he was borne with his old army comrades acting as a guard of honor. The pall bearers were H.A. Deardorff, L.W. Miller, John Clayton, Geo. W. Conrad, Harry Clark and A.O. Haldeman. There were about a dozen of the members of Milton Summers Post G.A.R. in attendance.

Mr. Dice was a loyal soldier through the Civil War enlisting in Company E of the 101st Pennsylvania regiment. He loved his country and his flag and his home was ever noted for the fact that on every holiday or special occasion the national colors were always displayed in the foreground. He was never happier than when he could entertain his old army comrades and friends at his pleasant home and many happy celebrations were held there the past few years. He was a good friend to every one with whom he came in contact and it could be truly said of him "that he loved his fellow man."

Isaac Dice was born March 14, 1838, in Springfield township, York County, Pa., and died at Malvern, Ia., March 27, 1916, at the age of 78 years and 13 days.

He was united in marriage in December 1858 to Rebecca Seitz of York County, Pennsylvania. She died after a lingering illness in 1902.

In the year 1878 he came to Malvern, settling on the property which has ever since been his home.

Twelve years ago, on March 10th, he returned to Harrisburg, Pa., where he was married to Miss Nellie McGoughey who survives him. About this time they both united with the Presbyterian church of Malvern.

Five children survive him. Also 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. His three remaining brothers reside at Mansfield, Ohio.
