ANOTHER VETERAN MUSTERED OUT
Stephen L Bailor, Veteran of Civil War, Answered Taps at His Home Near Tabor Thursday, May 27

Stephen Lewis Bailor was born August 29th, 1836, in Fairfield county, Ohio, and died May 27th, 1920, at his home in Wahgahbonsy.

He was married to Lavina Rachel Faith March 2, 1861, at Paris, Ill. To this union eleven children were born, nearly all being at his bedside at his death. His wife preceded him in death thirty-one years ago.

February 25th, 1889, at Sidney, Iowa, he was married to Naomi Jane Lloyd, and to this union were born two boys and two girls. They also being present during his last illness.

When the Civil war broke out he joined the colors and leaving his wife and baby at home went out with the 79th Illinois Volunteers, and served about three and a half years. He fought in the battles of Murfreesboro, Lookout Mt., Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge and Kenesah (Kennesaw) Mt. Twice he was wounded, once in action at Marietta, Ga., and also at Franklin, Tenn.

When the World War began he would gladly have taken his gun and marched to the front, but being too old he left it to his son, Harry, to "go across."

After his return from war he came to western Iowa, first settling at Percival. In the fall of 1880 he came to his present home when the country was new and the hills thickly covered with timber. He knew the hardships and privations of a new country. But through it all he knew and trusted One who never ails whether in life or death.

He was a faithful member of the M.E. church clinging to its teachings which sustained him in life's busy days and was a solace in the closing hours of a well rounded out life of usefulness to both his Creator and his country.

Funeral services were held at the Waughbonsie church on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Robert Kesterson, of Clarinda. Music was furnished by a male quartet from the Faith Home of Tabor, and interment was made in the Tabor cemetery.
