Virginia E. Hindman, 82, Glenwood

Virginia Ellen Hindman, 82, of Glenwood, died Aug. 18, 2004, at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Funeral services were held Aug. 23, 2004, at the Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Pastor Susy Gaffney officiated the services. Burial was at the Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Hindman was the daughter of Russell McKinley and Anna Marie (Wilson) Bacon, born May 26, 1922, in Glenwood. She graduated from Glenwood High School with the class of 1939. She also attended Peru State College. Following her schooling, she taught country school for several years. She was united in marriage to Gerald Lamont Hindman on Oct. 12, 1940, in Red Oak. To this union five children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Hindman raised their family in the Glenwood area, where Mrs. Hindman enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a faithful member of First Congregational U.C.C. for over 50 years. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary and Dorcas Society. Her passion was her family. She loved to be included in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and loved to cook and bake. Traveling and learning about new places were of great interest to her. She has left a lasting, loving memory in the lives and hearts of all privileged to know her, and she will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Hindman was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Russell Theodore “Ted” Bacon and great-grandson Gavin O’Halloran. She is survived by children Janet Hall and husband Don of Glenwood, Dick Hindman and wife Julie of Maxwell, Geri Young of Des Moines, Betty Lou Wendt and husband Todd of LeMars and Jeana Benham and husband Bear of Bushnell, Ill.; grandchildren Don Hall and wife Deniece and their son Wyatt of Pasadena, Calif., Michelle Smith and husband Andy of Ankeny, Michelle Magallon and son Xavier of St. Louis Park, Minn., Sophia O’Halloran and husband Doug and their children Liam and Fionna of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jahmy Hindman and wife Carrie and their children Ryley and Tobias of Tampere, Finland, Jessika McPhee and husband Paul of Denver, Colo., Kane Young and wife Stephanie and their son Kaden of Ankeny, Kyle Young of Glenwood and Blake Wendt of LeMars; sister Shirlee Shrimplin of Marshalltown; brothers William Roger Bacon and wife Ellen of Los Lunas, N.M., and Rodney James Bacon of Malvern; brother-in-law Willard “Bounce” Hindman and wife Betty of Glenwood; sisters-in-law Arvella Bacon of Glenwood and Darlene Hooper of Council Bluffs; countless nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational U.C.C. Church. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
