Merrill A. Lidgett,76, of Sioux City, died unexpectedly July 9, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held July 13, 2004, at the Nativity Catholic Church in Sioux City. Rev. Richard Zenk officiated the services. Burial was at the Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Lidgett was the son of Clarence N. and Pauline G. (Horstmeyer) Lidgett, born Sept. 6, 1927, in Glenwood. He was raised in the Glenwood area and attended school there. He also resided in Fargo, N.D., Great Falls, Mont., and Moville before settling in Sioux City. He married Wanona Martin on Jan. 29, 1949, in Bedford. She passed away in October 1967. He later married Marcia Rourke on Feb. 14, 1978, in Sioux City. He was a supervisor and foreman for Needham Packing Co. in Sioux City, Fargo and Great Falls. Mr. Lidgett was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, as well as the Nativity Men’s Club. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and family. He also enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Braves.

Mr. Lidgett was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Wanona; sisters Leurine Spetman and Clara Millsab; brothers Gerald Lidgett, Louis Lidgett and Devalla “Buck” Lidgett; daughter Teri Sue Wachter; and a great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Marcia of Sioux City; sons Leo Lidgett and wife Kathy of Bronson, Virgil Lidgett and wife Linda of Chatsworth and Steven Lidgett and wife Sheryl of Angelton, Texas; brothers Clarence Lidgett Jr. of Traer and Jack Lidgett of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Nativity Catholic Church. Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City was in charge of arrangements.
