Carolyn Jean Owen, 86, of Glenwood, died June 20, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Memorial services are pending. Inturnment will be at the Malvern Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Owen was the daughter of Kenneth Rice. and Mona (Berry) Cook, born March 5, 1918, in Malvern. She attended Malvern and Glenwood schools and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1936. In 1935 and 1936, she won superior ratings in national piano competition. Following graduation, she attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. She was married to Richard Edwin Owen of Centerville on April 4, 1942, in her parent’s home in Glenwood. They lived their entire lives in Glenwood, where they devoted themselves to raising their family. Mr. Owen predeceased Mrs. Owen on Nov. 11, 2000. Mrs. Owen was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing her piano and playing bridge. She served on the Board of Trustees of the Glenwood Public Library for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Glenwood First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Owen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Edgar Cook and wife lone; sister Nancy Mackaman and husband Frank; and Mr. Owen’s siblings Tom, Hobart, Kenneth, Donald and Dorothy. She is survived by sons Samuel J. Owen and wife Patricia of Golden, Colo., and Kenneth C. Owen and wife Cyndy of Englewood, Colo.; daughter Carolyn Jean Orr and husband Mark of Bellevue, Neb.; grandchildren Megan Reyes, Katie Owen and Jennifer, Meredith and Jeff Owen, all of Colorado, and Meg and Pam Orr of Bellevue; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Owen’s first great-grandchild is expected soon.

Memorials are suggested to Calvary Christian Church, 10100 Cedar Island Rd., Bellevue, Nebraska 68123. Peterson Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.
