Walter Short
Emerson - Services were Friday at Methodist Church here for Walter Short, 82. He died Tuesday at his home after a long illness.
The Rev Lyman Smith officiated at the services and burial was in Emerson Cemetery.
Short operated a garage here for some years and later worked for the telephone company
Survivors include one sister, Mrs Myra Nelson, of San Francisco.

Walter C. Short, son of Samuel P. Short and Harriett Curtis Short, was born July 9, 1872, at Biggsville, Illinois and died at his home in Emerson, July 5, 1954 at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 26 days. He has been in ill health for the past few years and had been cared for in his home.
After the Short family left Biggsville, they resided in Furnace County, Nebraska, and in Emerson, Iowa.
On February 2, 1895, Walter was united in marriage to Florence E. Carr. Two years falling their marriage they moved to Mitchellville, Iowa, where both were employed at the Girls' State Industrial School. After eight years they moved to Denver, Colorado, where they resided for eight years. In 1916 they returned to Emerson, where they re-established their home and where Walter was engaged in the Ford Garage business with his brother-in-law, Byron L. Carr. Later he had charge of the repair work of the Emerson Mutual Telephone Company until health compelled him to give up his work.
He was a member of the Methodist Church for several years and he always attended the services when it was possible for him to do so.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Pearl Short, two sisters, Gertrude Short Wray and Julia Adell Short Miller. He is survived by one sister, Myra A. Nelson, who resides in San Francisco, California. Also surviving are two nephew's, Glenn A Blackburn of Daly City, California and Thurl C. Blackburn of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two nieces, Corinne Nelson of San Francisco, California and Merle Rinehart of Cosby, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lyman Smith, pastor of the church in charge.
Ushers were Earle Crawford and I. W. Castor.
Willis Patrick, M. C. Blazek, A. F. Smith, Herber H. Hillyer, Dr. L. C. Blank, and Ray Fields served as pallbearers.
The floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Minnie Whisler, Mrs. Ray Huntsman, Mrs. Earle Crawford, and Mrs. Lloyd Blank.
Frederick Larson, soloist and Mrs. Merrill Warren, organist furnished the music, using the song, " Face to Face."
Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery.
