Floyd F. Blackman, 86, of Malvern, died Sept. 14, 2002, at the Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor. Funeral services were held Sept. 17, 2002, at the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern. Rev. Darrell Hopp officiated at the service. Burial was at the Malvern Cemetery.

Mr. Blackman was the son of Clarence LeRoy and Josie (Plumb) Blackman, born Dec. 24, 1915, at the family farm in Center Township southwest of Malvern. He grew up in the Hillsdale neighborhood where he attended the Hillsdale School. Following school, he began his lifelong farming career north of Glenwood, working for Henry Bush. The next year he began farming for himself on various farms in Mills County. He married Kate Belle Haney at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Glenwood on Christmas Eve 1939. In 1952, they purchased a farm southwest of Malvern where they raised livestock, milked cows and managed their cow-calf herd. They enjoyed their livestock and gave each animal a name. They were active members of the Iowa Trappers Association, and they enjoyed traveling and camping. Mr. and Mrs. Blackman had been married for 45 years when Mrs. Blackman died on July 29, 1985. Mr. Blackman continued farming as long as his health would permit. He moved to the Tabor Manor Care Center in March 1999.

Mr. Blackman was preceded in death by his parents; wife Katie; infant twin sisters; brothers Harold Blackman and Donald Blackman; and a sister, Edna Powles. He is survived by brothers Wayne Blackman and wife Marjorie and Everett Blackman and wife Ruth, all of rural Malvern; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Malvern Volunteer Rescue or the Tabor Volunteer Rescue. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
