No services are planned for James Weeren Bowen, 72, Sedro Wooley, WA. Mr. Bowen died Wednesday (May 4, 2005) at the veterans hospital in Spokane, WA.

He was born Dec. 5, 1932 at the farm home of Weeren Gilbert and La Neva (Parker) Bowen near Hastings. He was the youngest of three children. He had a happy childhood and loved animals, nature and people. He also loved all sports, music and history. He attended North Grove rural school near home and graduated from Hastings High School. He belonged to the United Methodist Church at Hastings. After high school, he joined the Navy. He was attached to the Naval Air Squadron, where he served as tail gunner. He was stationed in Japan for a good part of his enlistment. Upon returning home, he came back to the farm and helped his father, eventually going into the sodding business. He moved to Washington State in 1970 and worked in the logging field. He lived in the Sedro Wooley vicinity near his family and often filled in as a bartender at various establishments. After moving to Spokane, WA, he was a sales representative for a Seattle-based company and his territory extended to both eastern and western Washington. He married Sylvia Richmond and she survives him at the family home. His three aristocats, Tez (Cortez), Rickmeyer and Lola, afforded him many hours of love and pleasure.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack; and a nephew, Nick Bowen.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Bowen of Sedro Wooley, WA; two nephews, Doug Bowen and family of Malvern and Jerry Boos and family of Eatonville, WA; niece, Jane Hansen and family of Sedro Wooley, WA; sister, Lorraine Boos of Sedro Wooley, WA; other relatives and many friends.
