Services for Melvin James Parker, 76, Houston, Mo., formerly of Emerson, were June 29 at First Baptist Church in Houston with burial in Boone Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Frank Childers and the Rev. Keith Stuart officiated and Elliott-Gentry Funeral home, Cabool, Mo., was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Parker died Monday (June 25, 1990) at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool following a lengthy illness.

He was born Feb 18, 1914 in Emerson to Roscoe and Libby Parker. He was a 1932 graduate of Hastings high school and married Marie Cozad of Red Oak Aug. 5, 1938. The family lived in southwest Iowa and Omaha until moving to Licking, Mo., in 1951, where he worked at Rawlings Manufacturing. The family moved to Houston in 1962 and he was a dispatcher in the Texas County sheriff's office until his health forced his retirement.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Parker of Tulsa, Okla., and Roger Parker of Springfield, Mo.; four daughters, Charlotte Cameron of Cabool and Willa Baldwin and Wanda Sillyman of Springfield and Linda Ramsey of Houston; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Parker of Baldwin Park, Calif.
