Phyllis M. McCunn, age 80, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Phyllis Marie McCunn was born August 9, 1929 in Silver City, Iowa the daughter of Marion and Florence (Parker) Wilhelm. She graduated from the Malvern, Iowa High School in 1947 and worked for a drug store in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Merle R. McCunn on October 15, 1948. They lived many different places throughout Merle's military career including Bellevue and Lincoln, Nebraska, Mississippi, Texas, California, North Dakota, Washington State, and Africa. They moved back to Red Oak in 1973. Phyllis was known to be a great cook and enjoyed providing for her family. They spent many hours playing cards, games, putting together jig-saw puzzles and playing Bingo at Junction Days. Phyllis always maintained a garden and she canned her own produce. She loved traveling, going to rodeos and visiting cemeteries at Memorial Day. She and Merle enjoyed taking rides on the motorcycle and especially taking tours during the fall to watch the leaves change. Phyllis truly enjoyed life and loved visiting with family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Merle McCunn on September 28, 1995; and her son, Tony McCunn on July 6, 2010. Survivors include her children: Steve "Glenn" McCunn and wife Marilyn of Lake Dallas, TX; Debi Slaughter and husband Dan, Joni Rolofson and husband Dan, and Aimee Allen and husband Roxie all of Red Oak, IA; and Tracy Taylor and husband Dan of Emerson, IA; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Gene Wilhelm and wife June of Wichita, KS; in-laws: Carolyn McCunn and Mary Lou McCunn of Red Oak, IA; Marilyn Drenen and husband Sam of Council Bluffs, IA; Bette McCunn of Greenfield, IA; Don McCunn and wife Ardell of Massena, IA; Carroll "Newt"McCunn and wife Carolyn of Onawa, IA; Becky Tayor of Rockford, IL; and Diane McCunn of Orion, IL; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including her special family at Acorn Acres where she lived.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the First Covenant Church with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
