Glenwood Opinion
April 30, 1881

Died in Glenwood, Saturday, April 28, of quick consumption, Charles E. Provost, aged about 52 years.

The deceased had been in unusually fair health until some weeks ago, when by reason of a cold contracted by him his lungs became affected. He grew rapidly worse and suffered greatly until death came as a relief and he passed away as one going to sleep. Mr. Provost was well known in this community, and among the fraternity of printers in western Iowa, and had a reputation second to none as a skillful craftsman. For many years he had charge of the mechanical department of this office, and was thorough in all his work. He served a full enlistment in the war for the Union, rising to the rank of Captain, and filling during the time many positions of trust, and has among his papers many fine commendatory letters from his various commanders. The fraternity here acted as his pall-bearers, while Rev. J.C. Ecklez conducted the funeral service at the residence.
