May 8, 1922

One of the saddest deaths that had occurred in any community in a long time was that of Clifford Stevens of Wesley neighborhood north of Hastings. Mr. Stevens was a victim of small pox. He died at a late hour Friday night following a two weeks’ illness of the disease. Owing to the disease no public funeral could be held and he was buried at an early hour of Saturday morning in the Wesley cemetery.

The deceased leaves a wife and five children and two of the children are afflicted with the same disease. Six months ago a daughter died of scarlet fever.

Mr. Stevens was less than 40 years of age. He has been employed on the Fickel farms as a hired man for the past six years. The family originally came from Missouri.
