H.K. Shoop, a former well known citizen of Mills county, died of heart failure at his home in Syracuse, Neb. last Sunday morning, aged 84 years and 20 days.

Mr. Shoop was for many years a resident of White Cloud township, but about two years ago he and his aged wife removed to Syracuse where they have since resided.

He was born in North Carolina, Jan. 29, 1821. He moved to Buchanan county, Mo., where in 1846 he was married to Miss Malinda Judah. They had 11 children, of whom six are living. Tom, Ellen, John, Henry and Samuel died some years ago. Those living are Martha McFarland of Silver Creek township, W.W. Shoop of Randolph, Nebr., Mrs. Alice Boyes and William Shoop of Logan, Kans. The eldest son, William, served with his father through the civil war in the Union army.

The funeral was held Wednesday at 1 o'clock at the home of M.I. McFarland, conducted by Rev. Cable of the Methodist church, to which denomination Mr. Shoop belonged, and the Methodist choir furnished the music. Interment was made in the Malvern cemetery.

Owing to the illness of their daughter, Mrs. Wood Vestal, and the blocaded (sic) condition of the roads neither Mr. nor Mrs. McFarland were able to be with their father during his last illness. His son Wayne was the only one of his children with him when he died. Mrs. Shoop is in very frail health and was unable to come here at this time.
