Glenwood Opinion, September 25, 1902

Mrs. Mary Ann Sivers, Glenwood's oldest pioneer settler died at her home northeast of town at 2:30 o'clock, Monday afternoon. Death came suddenly, the aged lady having been apparently well as usual. Mrs. Sivers has long been honored as a kind mother and that she too has been the oldest settler in Glenwood.

She came to this locality July 4, 1849. There was only one house here at that time located on the lot now owned by Wilson Williams. And the place soon took the name of Coonville. She has seen a wilderness hanged into a well settled state. The strange part of it is that she was born in thickly populated England and came to a part of America that was then scarcely settled at all. She was born at Manthorp, Lincolnshire, England, May 19th, 1824, and was married to Mr. J. S. Sivers at Independent chapel in Manthorp, July 17, 1842.

Mr. Sivers died at Glenwood, March 31, 1880. Twelve children were born to them, six are living: Mrs. Mary Cook, Wayne, Neb.; Edward, Matthew and Oliye Sivers of Glenwood; John Sivers, Oakland, Iowa; and Mrs. Lydla Evernham, Wayne, Neb. The funeral was held from the family residence, Wednesday afternoon and largely attended. Internment at the West Liberty cemetery.
