LeRoy John Kruse, 85, of Glenwood, died April 9, 2003, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were held April 12, 2003, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Pastor Charles Ramsey officiated the service. Burial was at the Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Kruse was the son of Herman Louis and Clara Amelia (Huebner) Kruse, born March 15, 1918, in Glenwood. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and later confirmed on Oct. 9, 1932, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. He attended Goheen Country School and Glenwood Public School. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Elizabeth Stone on Feb. 2, 1938, in Pottawattamie County. To this union four children were born. Mr. Kruse was a conservationist by nature and farmed the land for several years. He was also employed at the Glenwood Packing Plant. He was the Glenwood Lake Park superintendent, grounds foreman at the Glenwood Resource Center and co-owner of Four Seasons Florist with his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Kruse joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood in 1945 where they were very active members. He was also a member of the Glenwood Optimist Club and served in the National Guard Co. “I”, 168th Infantry, 34th “Red Bull” Division for 23 years as Mess Sergeant. He was the well-deserving recipient of the Governors State of Iowa Volunteer of the Year and Glenwood Area Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1977.

Mr. Kruse was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lorraine on April 26, 1993; sisters Helen Pitzer, Mae Schoening and Dorothy Bishop; infant brother Otto; brother Clyde Kruse; and grandson Tracy Jo Harris. He is survived by children Richard Kruse and wife Donna Jean of New Berlin, Wis., Larry Kruse and wife Peggy of Glenwood, Sharon Kruse of Chandler, Ariz., and Jon Kruse and wife Donna of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Beatrice Huffman of Glenwood and Marion Jurgens of Council Bluffs; several nieces and nephews; special friend Barbara Taylor of Council Bluffs; and a host of friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church. Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
