Hallie “Shorty” Nelson Ellis, 85, of Malvern, died Feb. 15, 2003, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center. Graveside services were held Feb. 20, 2003, at the Malvern Cemetery. Rev. David Kim officiated at the service.

Mr. Ellis was the son of Hallie Dewitt and Anna Marie (Momm) Ellis, born July 2, 1917, in Coin. He grew up in Coin and graduated from Coin High School in 1935. He married Elsie Faye Watson on May 13, 1939, in Rockport, Mo. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Marilyn Frances, Lonnie Dale, Donald Eugene “Butch,” Randy Glen and Denny Ray. Mr. Ellis worked with his father, moving houses in the Coin and Blanchard areas, and also served as town marshall for the city of Coin. In 1957, the family moved to Malvern. In 1961, they moved to Colorado and lived in the communities of Kersey, Pierce and Ault before returning to Malvern in 1969. He drove a truck for Standard Chemical and later worked at the Henningsen Egg Processing Plant in Malvern. He loved life and enjoyed visiting with his friends and spending time hunting and fishing.

Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elsie; sister Kathryn Hill; half-sister Helen Smith; half-brothers Roy Simpsion and Earl Ellis; and son-in-law Jack Rice. He is survived by daughter Marilyn (Rice) Sage and husband Richard of Wellington, Colo.; sons Lonnie Ellis and wife Malu of Las Vegas, Nev., Butch Ellis and wife Debbie of Macdenny, Fla., Randy Ellis of Malvern and Denny Ellis and wife Robin of Council Bluffs; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern was in charge of arrangements.
