Ruby M. Hastie, 85, of Glenwood, died May 12, 2003, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. Funeral services were held May 16, 2003, at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Rev. Dwight Seek and Rev. Louis Colon officiated at the service.

Burial was at the Waubonsie Cemetery in Glenwood.

Mrs. Hastie was the daughter of John Mark and Mabel Pearl (Gray) Needs, born Oct. 30, 1917, in Arkansas City, Kan. She married Lowell Wallace Hastie on Nov. 6, 1939. She lived in Sidney before moving to Glenwood in 1945. She worked at the Glenwood State Hospital-School as an RTW and foster grandparent, working through October 2002. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Hastie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Gerald Hastie, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by sons Dallas Benedict and wife Marlene of Anchorage, Alaska, Richard Benedict and wife Peggy of Florida, Keith Hastie and wife Ann of Glenwood, Dale Hastie of Malvern, Joe Hastie and wife Pudge, Duane Hastie and wife Lorraine and John Hastie and wife Susie, all of Glenwood; daughters Carole Study of Malvern, Lila Green and husband Larry and Janet Wylie and husband Ray, all of Glenwood, and Judy Best and husband Al of St. Petersburg, Fla; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
