Muriel Maxine Aughe, 77, of Red Oak, died Sept. 27, 2003, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Sept. 30, 2003, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Rev. David Erickson officiated the services. Burial was at the Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Aughe was the daughter of Ira and Grace (Ettleman) Greenwood, born Nov. 22, 1925, in Mills County near Glenwood. She attended College Hill country school near Thurman until the sixth grade. She then attended junior high in Bartlett and Tabor. At the age of 13, she became a member of the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints in Tabor, where she has been a member all of her life. She graduated from the Glenwood High School in 1943 and taught country school for two years in Mills County. While teaching, she met a young farmer, Clarence Fay Aughe, and was united in marriage April 8, 1945, in April 8, 1945 in Glenwood. To this union, six children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Aughe farmed all of their lives, living in Neola, Bartlett and Emerson before buying their own farm near Red Oak in 1968. Mrs. Aughe’s home was still at the farm, even at the time of her death. She started working outside the home after all of her kids were in school. She worked for Montgomery Ward and Village Inn, and she was a hostess for Super America for over five years. She then worked for the Thomas D. Murphy Company and J.I.I.; retiring in 1991 after 13 1/2 years in the customer service department. She was a member of the RLDS Church in Tabor and the Jolly Janes Club in Emerson. Mr. and Mrs. Aughe both enjoyed traveling in their motor home, going to their son’s home in Arizona and visiting friends and relatives all over the states.

Mrs. Aughe was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers Burwyn Dale Greenwood and Daryl David Greenwood. She is survived by daughters Christinia Palser and husband Dane, of Council Bluffs, Shirley Sinnott and husband Daniel of Omaha, Neb., and Beverly Dickinson and husband Ron of Council Bluffs; sons Clarence Aughe Jr. and wife Ruth of Villisca, Nathan Aughe and wife Julia of Phoenix, Ariz., and Scott Aughe of Red Oak; 11 grandchildren; sisters Vernie Brake of Glenwood, Elnora McPherron and husband Neil of Glenwood and Leora Aughe of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
