Obituary:
Mabel Brown - daughter of Elvira Huntsman-Smith.
Mabel Smith-Brown was born at Emerson, Iowa on February 12, 1880, the daughter of Don and Elvira Smith - passed away February 1, 1961.
Her childhood was spent in attending the Emerson schools where she graduated from the high school
in 1897. At the age of 16 she was converted, giving her heart into the Saviors' keeping, uniting with the First Baptist Church of Emerson, Iowa and was baptised by the Rev. George Brown.

On June 22, 1898 she was married to William A. Brown of Emerson. To this union two sons were born: Dolan C. Brown and Wendell D. Brown.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown came to Wamego, Kansas, August 12, 1907. The family moved to Holton in 1913 where they affiliated with the First Christian Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown lived to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary June 22, 1948.

Mrs. Brown remained steadfast and strong in her convictions of right. She was generous in love when it came to faults in others. She readily adapted herself to all conditions of life, meeting its problems with a smile and courage that brought sunshine where ever she went. Mrs. Brown was a willing helper in her Church activities, giving a hand in sickness and sorrow. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a kind and thoughtful neighbor. In her younger years she gave readings and directed pageants and plays in the church.

Mrs. Brown being the only daughter of Don and Elvira Smith, was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clarence C. Smith; and her husband William A. Brown.

She is survived by her two sons Dolan C. Brown of San Fernando, California; Wendell D. Brown of Topeka, Kansas; three grandchildren, Duane Brown of San Fernando; Marcia and Kerry Brown of Topeka, Kansas; and one great grandson, Nicky of San Fernando, California.

Funeral Services were held Friday, February 3, at 2p.m., at the First Christian Church, with Rev. Donald Moss officiating. A nephew, Bob Brown, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" accompanied by Dorothy Rogers.

Pall bearers, all nephews, were Albert Brown, Forest Brown, Bob Brown, Lyle Brown, Carl Johnson and Claude McCullough. Assisting with the flowers were Mrs. Lou Abel, Mrs. Wm. Vestle, Mrs. M. Cornelius and Mrs. Jessie Hurst. The Faith Circle Class of the church attended in a body.
