Norval Jones Buried Here. Former Resident Dies in Nebraska May 6; Funeral in Malvern Sunday. - - Norval Jones, forty years ago a resident of this county, passed away May 6 at the Soldiers' Home in Grand Island, Nebr.

The remains were brought to Malvern and funeral services were held from the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. J.E. Wilkins. Interment was made in the Malvern cemetery by the side of the wife who preceded him in death eighteen years ago.

Norval Jones was born in New Windsor, Ill. August 31, 1835. In the spring of 1864 he enlisted in Company K of the 137th Illinois Infantry and served throughout the Civil War.

He came to Iowa in 1875 locating first north of Malvern then two miles west on what is now the Oliver Hammers farm where he lived for twelve years, moving from here to Madison, Nebraska in 1887 where he has since made his home.

He is survived by two sons - Orel Jones of Oconto, Nebr. and Newell Jones of Los Angeles, Calif. The former accompanied the funeral party here.

During Mr. Jones's residence in this county he took an active part in all local affairs and was known as an upright and useful citizen. He was a member of and official in the First Baptist Church of Malvern and was superintendent of the Baptist Sunday School for a number of years.

Many of our older residents will recall this good man and learn with sorrow of his passing. His life was well spent. He has gone to his reward.
