Florence Orlena Weak (1874 – 1925)

Florence Orlena Babbitt was born near St. Augusta, Ill., August 20, 1874, and passed from this life June 9, 1925, at her home four miles north of Glenwood, at the age of 50 years, 9 months and 17 days.

When one and a half years old, she came with her parents to Iowa who settled in Fremont County, near Imogene. Later on they moved into Mills County near Strahan, and in that vicinity she grew to young womanhood.

On February 6, 1900, she was united in marriage to Miller F Weak. Mr. and Mrs. Weak lived in Strahan vicinity for six years and then moved to Nebraska, where they lived for two years. They returned to Mills County and lived in the east part of the county until about six years ago, when they purchased a home in the West Oak community.

In West Oak community she was associated with the West Oak Baptist Church and served as teacher of the bible class in Sunday school for nearly two years. She also identified herself with her branches of the church and community work. Her departure will be very keenly felt by both the church and vicinity.

Those left to mourn her are her husband, her aged father of Malvern, a sister, Mrs. Arthur Mateer of Osceola, Ia.’ And a sister, Miss Lulu Babbitt, of Omaha, and many other relatives and friends.

To her husband Mrs. Weak was a cheerful, loving and devoted helpmate and always considered it a please when she could be of service to any one with whom she mingled.

Mrs. F. M. Weak

The funeral of Mrs. F. M. Weak, mention of whose death was made in last week’s Leader, was held from the Christian Church in Malvern on Thursday afternoon at two o’clock.

Rev. J.F. Stille of West Oak had charge of the services and read the obituary and Rev. J.E. Wilkins of Malvern preached the sermon.

A special choir, Mrs. L.D. Austin, Mrs. F.J Steele and Robert Criswell and J.R. McClymond with Mrs. G.S. Eacrett as accompanist, sang. The church was filled to overflowing with sorrowing friends and relatives.

The remains were laid to rest in the Malvern Cemetery whither they were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors. The pallbearers were former neighbors of the deceased from the Champion Hill neighborhood. They were Arthur Nims, Harry Dunlap, Ora Douglas, J.W. McLain, Scott Arterburn and John McGinnis.
