Azubia Iambia Babbitt

Azubia I., daughter of James and Mary A. Babbitt was born in Fulton County, Illinois, Feb. 15, 1853, and died at her home in Mills County, Malvern, Iowa, Sunday evening, April 27, 1913.

She was married to Hugh M. Babbitt, Feb. 11, 1872. Ten children were born to them, four of whom are living; Lena F. Weaks of Emerson, Pear D. Mateer of Havelock, Neb., Oliver Glenn Babbitt of Lewis, Iowa and Lula of Malvern, Iowa.

At her marriage they made their home at St. Augustine, Illinois, for three years and in the year 1875 moved to Iowa where they have since resided, the last few years having been spent near Malvern. During her girlhood she was converted and joined the Disciples Church with which she was affiliated until she moved to Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Babbitt united with the Christian Church at Malvern, Iowa some years ago during a meeting held by evangelist Jesse.

It seems remarkable that each of the four brothers of Mr. Babbitt has been bereft of his wife and his one sister of her husband. Mrs. Babbitt’s passing means that each of the six children has lost their companion in life.

Mrs. Babbitt is well known in the community and her departure has brought sorrow to many. She exemplified her faith in Christ as a true and loving mother, a loyal wife and a friend and neighbor.

Mr. Babbitt and family desires through the columns of the Leader to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation of the many kindnesses and sympathy shown them in their hour of bereavement.
