October 4, 1894

Aunt Susan Smith, as she was familiarly called, widow of Uncle Peter Smith, died at the Gordon House Monday afternoon about 1 o'clock. She was sick something like a month, although failing for a much longer time, and gradually grew weaker until the end came.

She was about seventy-six years old and had been a resident of Malvern for a number of years. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church, of which deceased was a member, Tuesday at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Father Hayes.

Presiding Elder W. T. Smith, of Creston, was here Tuesday to attend the funeral of his stepmother, Mrs. Susan Smith, Mr. Smith was at Griswold when the telegram announcing his mother's death reached him Monday evening and he could not got here until the arrival of No. 4 the following day.
