DEATH NOTICE AND OBITUARY OF JOHN DYE

John Dye died last Thursday. Home in Malvern, Iowa. Had lived more than
60 years in southwest Iowa; funeral in Macedonia.

After a long illness John Dye, one of southwest Iowa's pioneers, and for
many years a resident of Malvern, passed away at his home on north Marion
Avenue early Thursday morning. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon. A
brief service was held at the late home at 1:30 conducted by the Rev. Roy E.
Sesgebe, pastor of the Methodist Church, with music furnished by Mrs. F. R.
Chanty and Mrs. L.A. Talbott.

The regular services were held in the Methodist church in Macedonia at
3:00, conducted by Rev. Sesgebe, assisted by the Macedonia pastor, Rev.
Earnest McAninch. Music was furnished by a mixed quarter. Burial was in the
Macedonia Cemetery. The pall bearers were grandsons: Boyd Dye, Glen Carley,
Howard Carley, Marvin Carley, John Clayton, and Walter Clayton. The following
obituary was given:

John Dye, son of Henry Dye and Jane (Micheluit) Dye, was born in Lee
County, Iowa, Aug. 29, 1847, and died at Malvern, March 15, 1934, aged 86
years, seven months, and fourteen days. Mr. Dye grew to manhood near Ft.
Madison. On Jan. 1, 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary G. Snapp of
Lee County and in March of the same year they migrated to Pottawattamie
County, locating on a farm southwest of Macedonia. To this union eight
children were born--Willis, Daisy, George, Howard, Effie, Millie, Cleveland,
and Lottie. On May 9, 1887 the mother passed away after an extended illness.

Oct 24, 1897 he was united in marriage to Alice M. Bigger of Phelps
County, Nebraska. To this union was born one son, Dewey. All of the
children remain to mourn the loss of their father except George who died Aug.
24, 1913.

Mr. Dye continued to live on his farm near Macedonia until 1908 when he
retired and moved to Macedonia. In 1910 he located in Malvern where he lived
until his death.

He was one of the early settlers in Pottawattamie County and was subject
to all hardship and trials of the pioneer.

He was always honest and upright in his dealings and enjoyed the honor,
love, and respect of his family, neighbors, and friends. It was always a
source of pride to Mr. Dye that he had, under great difficulties, raised a
large family to be honest and respected citizens.

He is survived by his wife, 38 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren
and one brother, Willoughby Dye of Macedonia.

The children surviving are H.W. Dye of Strahan, Mrs. David D. Basset of
Long Beach, Calif., H.S. Dye of Spencer, Nebraska, Mrs. Dan Rowan of Olathe,
Colo., Mrs. H.O. Clayton of Macedonia, Cleveland Dye of Sweetgrass, Mont.,
Mrs. A.L. Carley of Carson, and Dewey Dye of Omaha.
