GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED THURS., DECEMBER 13, 1962:Funeral services for Oscar C. Osterholm, 80, will be held at the Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Clyde Mosher of the First Christian church officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood cemetery. He died in a Council Bluffs hospital Tuesday evening following a stroke Saturday morning.
Born in Essex, Iowa, in 1882, shortly after his parents arrived there from Sweden, he became a printer’s apprentice on the Essex Independent at age 12 and spent more than a half century in the printing and publishing field before his last “retirement” last June.
At 17 he became editor of a weekly newspaper in Nehawka, neb., and at that time was the youngest editor in the state. Later he was to publish his own weeklies in Elk Horn and Emerson, Iowa, as well as working in various capacities in many newspapers and printing plants in several states, including the Opinion-Tribune. He was also acting postmaster in Glenwood for 2 1/2 years back in the 40’s.
Ten years ago he retired, but after that went back to work again. He was in charge of the printing department at Glenwood State school for four years, until retiring again last June.
Three of his nine children learned the printing trade from him. Stewart is a linotype operator for he Opinion-Tribune, Lisle is an operator for a Los Angeles publication, and Richard of Glenwood, is a reporter for the Omaha World-Herald.
Other children surviving are: Mrs. J. T. Riekena, Maxwell; Mr. L. F. Niederberger, St. Charles, Mo.; Mrs. Jack Dalton, Glenwood; Orrin, Lincoln, Neb.; Leo, Plattsmouth, Ne., and Robert, Glenwood. Also surviving are his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Ambur, Omaha, and Mrs. Hilma Bennett, Lynwood, Calif.; and two brothers, Leroy, Omaha, and Gerald, Red Oak.
