MILLS COUNTY TRIBUNE
DATED MAY 14, 1903:

Robert H. Daniel, Glenwood’s well known business man and pioneer citizen, died at his home in this city Monday morning about 9 o’clock. It was over a year ago that he was taken sick with a malady that baffled medical skill. For a time he rallied and it was thought he might recover, but of late he grew worse. The physicians pronounce the ailment as pernicious aneama (sic), a sort of deterioration of the blood.

Mr. Daniel was born in Highland county, Ohio, Feb. 7, 1842, and was raised a Quaker. He served four full years in the civil war as a member of Company F of the 60th Ohio volunteer infantry, and was ever faithful to duty. He came to Glenwood in 1866, since which time he had been prominently identified with the business interests of the city. During all this time he had been located on the west side of the square and was extensively engaged in the hardware and implement business.

He was married Nov. 29, 1869, to Miss Josephine Smith, who survives him together with four children, namely, Mrs. T. Q. Records, Will, Homer and Josephine Daniel---all residing in Glenwood. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. M. H. Byers of Des Moines, and Mrs. Lydia Tomlinson of Indiana, the latter having been here for some months.

Mr. Daniel was a man of strict integrity and enjoyed the utmost confidence of his fellow citizens. he was generous, kind hearted, and a model husband and father. He had few if any enemies, while his friends were numbered by the hundreds. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their bereavement.

The funeral took place Wednesday at 3 o’clock, all business houses being closed during the hour. Rev. T. L. Stephens of Des Moines, who officiated at the wedding of the deceased 34 years ago, preached the funeral sermon, while the Masonic lodge had general charge of the services. Following were present from abroad:
