OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED TUES., SEPT. 13, 1983:Services were today in Glenwood for Chester L. Shannon, 88, of Glenwood. He died Sunday in a Glenwood nursing home.
Shannon was born 11 miles south of Glenwood, and lived and farmed in that area until moving to Glenwood in 1968. From 1957 to 1962 he was a night watchman at the Glenwood State Hospital-School. He and his wife, Mabel would have been married 70 years in December.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons, James of Sidney and John of Missouri Valley; one daughter, Velma Smith of Fergus Falls, Minn.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
Services were at Raynor Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerold Irvin officiating. Music was provided by soloist Neil McPherron and organist Ardis Dusenberry. Casket bearers were Merle and Randy Wohlers, Howard Curry, John Barbour, David Mackey and Clarence Severn. Interment was at Tabor Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Glenwood Rescue Unit or Glen Haven Home.
