GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED MAY 2, 1963:

Miss Amy Hammers was born June 9, 1892, on a farm near Malvern in Mills county, the daughter of Oliver Hammers and his wife Carrie Buffington Hammers.

She had lived all of her life in Mills county and was a graduate of Simpson college and had advanced education at the University of Wisconsin.

She served for 32 years as the superintendent of education here in Mills county.

She was a member of Grace Methodist church and had served for many years as its treasurer. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Business and Professional Women’s club and the National Huguenot society.

She was also a member of the Glenwood Woman’s club and was recently awarded her 40-years pin as a member of the Iowa State Educational association.

In addition to these, she was affiliated with numerous other professional clubs and organizations.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Harry Kemp of Magnolia; one brother, Oliver Hammers of Omaha, and four nieces and nephews.

Miss Hammers died April 25, 1963, in a Council Bluffs hospital.

Services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from Grace Methodist church with the Rev. C. F. Waterman officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Dean Dusenberry and Neil McPherron.

Caring for the flowers were Miss Winnifred Johnson, Mrs. Harold Strand, Mrs. Lewis S. Robinson, III, Mrs. Albert Batten, Miss Marjorie Boldra and Mrs. Roy Knopp. Ushers were L. E. Chrisinger and John Anderson.

Casket bearers were Wayne Lincoln, L. T. Genung, Albert Batten, Harry Markel, Glenn Johnson and Earl Tubbs.

Interment was in the Malvern cemetery. Raynor-Hamilton were in charge of arrangements.
