GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED SEPTEMBER 12, 1932:FUNERAL SERVICES
HELD SATURDAY FOR
MRS. HOWARD MINTLEWell Known Former Glenwood
Resident Passed Away at Home in
Cambridge---Body Brought Here
for Funeral Services and BurialRosa Lee Hiatt was born in Sidney, Iowa, May 13, 1871, and departed his life Sept. 7, 1932 in her home at Cambridge, Iowa, aged 61 years, 3 months and 24 days.
She made her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hiatt, on a farm near Sidney, until on Nov. 26, 1891, when she was united in marriage to Howard Mintle of Glenwood, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Raymond of Glenwood; Vera, Eva and Maxine at home.
During the early years of their married life they gave full time service to Christian work, later while their children were in public school they lived on a farm north of Glenwood, and still carried out the work of the church. In March, 1920, the family moved to a residence on Chestnut street in Glenwood where they lived until November, 1924, when they were called to a pastorate at Adel, Iowa.
Early in life she accepted Christ and His teachings and dedicated her life to His work. She lived a thoroughly consistent Christian life, always forgetting self and thinking of others and of the service she could be to them. She loved people and made their problems her own, always of making life a bit happier and easier for those who shared it with her. She made friends with all, and was devoted to many. This devotion to others seemed only to increase her capacity for making her family life an unending love circle.
She was a devoted, loving, cheery and patient wife and mother. A Christian who lived up to her highest ideals, a friend to all.
Beside her bereft husband and children, she leaves two grandchildren, Louise and Howard Mintle; 5 sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Roberts of Beverly, Neb.; Mrs. Philena Palmer of Riberton, Wyo.; Mrs. Mary Stiles of Sidney, Iowa; Mrs. Carrie Jordan of Pacific Junction, Iowa, and Mrs. Irene Carter of Sanborn, Iowa; and 2 brothers, George Hiatt of Sidney, Iowa, and Oscar Hiatt of Pacific Junction, and many loving relatives and sincere friends.
The body was brought from the home in Cambridge where short funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, and services held Saturday in the First Baptist church with Rev. J. F. Stille of the Emerson Baptist Church who is a long-time family friend, in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Anna Kemp, Mrs. George Masters, S. M. Criswell and Harry Hamilton, with Mrs. Clyde Genung at the piano. The pallbearers were R. P. Butcher, J. W. Brower, Bert Butterfield, H. A. Darting, R. O. Jackson and L. W. McKnight.
Many long-time friends and former neighbors gathered to pay this one last tribute of respect to the memory of this good woman who was beloved by all who knew her and followed the body on its last journey to the Glenwood cemetery where it was laid to rest in the family plot.
