THE OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED WED., OCT. 14, 1987Funeral services were held for Elmer H. Fieselman, 86, of Glenwood October 7 at Raynor Funeral Home in Glenwood. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. Fieselman passed away October 4 in a Council Bluffs hospital following a six-week illness.
Mr. Fieselman was a husband, father, farmer, thinker and master of many trades. He was born February 10, 1901, on Pony Creek near Glenwood. He spent his younger years roaming the woods and hillsides of Iowa and Missouri.
A crippling injury in 1921 brought him back to the Glenwood area to stay. It also brought to the surface the strength of character and will that was to sustain him for the next 65 years. To the last he fought the good fight.
His strong hands, used for controlling 10-ton machines, also whittled small wooden toys for his three children. Even as he lay at rest, his hands spoke reams.
Mr. Fieselman was interested in everything. His enthusiasm affected everyone who met him. Despite a lack of formal education, he was well-read in many disciplines. He passed to his children a feeling of awe about the great universe around them.
He was laid to rest in his well-deserved resting place in Glenwood Cemetery. His sturdy oak coffin faces southeast across the land he tilled and loved for so many years. He will be missed, but God will enjoy his sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mildred; two sons, Don of Omaha and Dwight of Albuquerque, N. M.; one daughter, Marlene Fieselman of Glenwood; one brother, Clifford of Deming, N.M.; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
