DATED WED. JUNE 4, 1986:

The Funeral Mass will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church for the Rev. Othmar L. Kaufman, 70, who died Tuesday morning at a Council Bluffs hospital after a long illness. Father Kaufman, the first pastor of Holy Rosary Church, retired on July 25, 1979.

The Rev. Thomas Oedy, his nephew, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery.

A Christian wake service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Beem-Belford Funeral Home Council Bluffs, and Thurday at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church. The body will lie in state after 4 p.m. Thursday at the church.

A native of Ottawa, Ohio, he has been a priest in the Diocese of Des Moines since his ordination in 1943. Father Kaufman had served at the Visitation Church in Des Moines, St. Francis Church in Council Bluffs, St. Boniface Church in Westphalia and was named the pastor at St. Mary's
Church in Hamburg in 1955. While in Hamburg, he also had a mission church in Pacific Junction.

In 1961, he opened Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Glenwood, serving as pastor here until his retirement. He was also chaplain at the Glenwood State Hospital-School for several years and chaplain of the local Knights of Columbus.

When a new church building was built a couple of years ago, the old church was re-named Kaufman Hall in his honor.

Survivors include four brothers, Albert of Glandorf, Ohio, Leo and Norman of Ottawa, Ohio, and Cletus of Clyde, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Wyant of Findlay, Ohio.
