DATED WED. MARCH 7, 1990:Funeral servics for A.C. "Nuck" Nuckolls, 87, of Glenwood were held February 28 at Glenwood Community High School. The Rev. Edward Phillips officiated with burial in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Nuckolls passed away February 25, 1990, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.
He was born July 7, 1902, in Tarkio, Mo., the son of William and Francis Nye Nuckolls. Nuck married Lola Cain on June 9, 1930, at Rock Port, Mo. He eventually graduated from Tarkio College in 1939 with a degree in accounting and economics.
Nuck taught school in Elliott, Ia., before coming to Glenwood in 1946. Before retiring in 1972, he served as the school's athletic director, coached football, basketball, baseball and track, and taught American government, economics and history at the high school. He is credited with Glenwood's affiliation with the Hawkeye Eight Conference, and the school's baseball field is named after him.
He was honored by his alma mater, Tarkio College, in May 1969 with the school's Distinguished Alumni Citation.
Survivors include his wife Lola of Glenwood; a daughter, Poliann Thomas of Omaha; a granddaughter, Tami Dross of Hot Springs, S. D.; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Dross of Hot Springs, S.D.
Ardis Dusenberry was the organist at the funeral service and Neil McPherron was the soloist. Pallbearers wre Wendell Holmes, Ed Flack, Bill McKee, Ross Pilkington, Fay McManigal and Dick Owen.
Escorts were Jim Dwyer, Wayne Boles, Jerry Kaiman and Berwyn Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers were Tony Tubrick, Rodney Radford, Byron Young, Pat Wright, Ed Ward, Gene Ward, Tom Nutting, Ralph Crouch, Gene Gilson, Charles McManigal, Max Hammer, Emil Mayberry, Judson McManigal, John Murphy, Clarence Boles, Jr., Phil Edwards, Bill Agan, Fred Welsch, Carl Hurst, Verris Hubbell, Rev. E. E. Basye, Don Thomas, Don Edwards, Phil Delaven, Gene Schatz, Jim Thomas, John Gregory, Bud Smith, Dean West and Bob Graham.
Memorial are suggested to the A. C. Nuckolls Athletic Fund, Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood, or the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Peterson Mortuary of Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
