MILLS COUNTY TRIBUNE
DATED SEPTEMBER 8, 1919

After a brief illness, Asahel Lambert, one of the best citizens of which any community can boast, passed away at his home on Sunday morning about the hour when in the years past he would be noted as on his way to Sunday school.

Mr. Lambert was a working Christian, devoted to his church to such a degree that few surpass.
No laudation of ours can add to the estimation held by those who have been his associates during the years past.

Funeral services will be held from the Congretational church Tuesday at 3:00 o'clock.
Obituary later.

MILLS COUNTY TRIBUNE
DATED SEPTEMBER 11, 1919

Truly, may the words of Paul to Timothy, be suitably applied to our worthy citizen, Asahel Lambert, when he wrote, "I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me this day."

Asahel Lambert had but few idle waking hours. He was busy on his farm, about the home and in insurance work.

He loved his church with a devotion that few manifest. No work, however lowly, appertaining to the interest of Christ's kingdom but what gave him joy to perform.

The following sketch of his life was read by his friend and church brother, Shirley Gillilland.

Asahel Lambert was born in Lyons township, Mills County, Iowa; on January 19, 1857. He died September 7, 1919, aged sixty-two years, eight months and seventeen days. All of his life was spent in Mills County in the vicinity of Glenwood.

He became a member of the Congregational church here on May 4, 1877, and at his death was the ranking member of this body in point of continuous membership. He was but twenty years of age at the time of his entrance into the church, but from that day to the end of his life he was deeply interested and active in all of its work and grew in grace and efficiency to the end. He was indeed a pillar in the church and was honored and beloved by all of its membership.

On January 10, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Missouri Hubbell. To this union one daughter, Ethel Pearl, was born. She lived but a few brief months. Her loss was deeply felt by the parents. A few years later the hearts of both parents were made glad by the adoption of a little homeless girl, Eva Yearin, who survives him and was at the bedside with the bereaved wife when the end came. Besides the wife and adopted daughter there are left to mourn the departure of Asahel Lambert four sisters and three brothers -- the sisters are Mrs. Mary E. Merritt, Lyons township; Mrs. Celia M. Keyser, Percival; Mrs. Jeannette Frazier, Malvern; Mrs. Elsie Mayberry, Glenwood. The brothers are Lester W., Glenwood; Calvin, Percival; Lewis, Pamplin, Virginia; Walter, Grandview, Washington. All were with him in his last illness except Calvin, Lewis, and Walter.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational church on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Evans, assisted by members of the gospel team. The large attendance bespoke the regard in which this loyal pioneer was held by those who knew him.
