THE MALVERN LEADER
DATED JUNE 1, 1950:

Last rites were held for Fred Barkus, 64, in the Raynor chapel in Glenwood Monday afternoon, with the Rev. Wm. Lee of Elliot conducting the services.

Mr. Barkus passed away in the University hospital at Iowa City last Thursday after a lingering illness. He formerly lived in and near Malvern for several years, moving to Glenwood about eight years ago where he was associated with the Lugsch Cleaners until the last year when his health began to fall.

Casket bearers were Robert Honig, Charles Radford, Gale Miller, Henry Parks, Robert Parks and Robert Evans. Interment was in the Malvern cemetery.

His survivors besides his wife are four sons, Lynn E., Harrison, Neb.; Frederick William and Robert L., Van Nuys, Calif., Edwin L., Glenwood. Also eight grandchildren; three brothers W. A. , St. Joseph, Mo., Harry, Santa Barbara, Calif., and George of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Faye Newquist and Mrs. Bessie Jefferson of Omaha.
