THE MALVERN LEADER
DATED JUNE 1, 1950:Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Moore, 81, were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Hastings Methodist church.
The Rev. J. E. Englund, pastor of the church, officiated at the services with Mrs. Fred Lookabill and Mrs. Henry Washburn, accompanied by Mrs. Ben Haroff, furnishing the music.
Pall bearers were Charlie Hall, Ralph Hall, Burdette Hunt and Glen Dalrymple. Mrs. Alta Hall and Mrs. Ralph Hall were in charge of the floral offerings. Interment was in the Hastings cemetery.
Mrs. Elizabeth J. Moore, the daughter of William W. and Jane Anderson, was born in Fremont county July 19, 1869. Her early life was spent in that community but later on the family of which she was a member traveled through Kansas and Minnesota and back to Iowa in a covered wagon. Her mother died when Elizabeth was only 13 so for the next few years she had to serve as housekeeper for the whole family.
In 1892, March 9, she was united in marriage to C. W. Moore in Malvern. The newly married couple farmed for several years south of Silver City then they moved to a farm northwest of Hastings, where they made their home for about 30 years.
Ten children were born in this home of which all but one are living today. About nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. Moore retired from the farm and moved to their new home in Hastings. In January, 1923 they were received into the membership of the Hastings Methodist church.
For the past few months, Mrs. Moore was under a doctor’s care and has been a patient at the Red Oak hospital several weeks. She departed this life May 26 at the age of 80 years, 10 months and seven days. Her departure is deeply mourned by her faithful husband, C. W. Moore, and the nine children: Mrs. Grace Karsetter, Wood River, Ore., Mrs. Ruth Huntsman, Emerson, Elmo E. Moore, Hermeston, Ore., Jim McCue and Mark Moore of Hastings, Mrs. Kate G. Saunte, Sioux City, Ronald E. Moore, St. Paul, Minn., Amy T. Moore, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Stella Bernice Auston, Des Moines; seven grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Stella Hall, Hastings and one brother, Chas. Anderson, Denver, Colo., besides the many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Moore was known as a good housekeeper, a lover of flowers and also as one who loved her Bible and read from it every evening with great enjoyment. There must be a fine reward for such a good wife and mother.
