Services were Feb. 19 in Carson for Harold Frederick Slaughter, 70, of Carson. He died Feb. 16 in Omaha.

Slaughter was born on May 9, 1915 in Glenwood, the son of Myrtle Angie (Kellman) and Arthur Slaughter. He attended school in Glenwood and worked at Kaiman’s. He married Dorothy Juanita Fichter in Council Bluffs in August of 1947, and they made their first home in Tacoma, Wash.

Slaughter served in the Iowa National Guard, Army and Air Force, and spent three years overseas during World War II. He was decorated with a bronze arrowhead for the invasion of North Africa, a silver and bronze stars for participation in several other campaigns, and the Good Conduct and American Defense Medals. He also fought in the Korean Conflict and Cuban Crisis. Slaughter retired from military srevice in 1964 and worked for 2 1/2 years for Tumpana Co. in Ankara, Turkey. He later worked as a guard at Omaha National Bank until health failed him.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Carson; two sons, Harold Frank of Prescott, Arz. and Larry lee of Jacksonville, Ark.; and a sister, Mrs. Louise Ranne of Glenwood; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy Chrisenger, and a daughter, Ann.

Services were at the Carson Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Harvey officiating. Music was provided by Evelyn Hodges, organist and Earlin Feen, vocalist. Casket bearers were Merilyn Rieber, Dwayne Boruff, Howard Sales Jr., Jim Bolton, Gary Fichter and Larry Fichter. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery in Washington Township.
