THE MALVERN LEADER
DATED JUNE 29, 1950:Memorial services were held for Clarence W. More in the Hastings Methodist church Tuesday, June 27, at 2:30 p.m. with interment in the Hastings cemetery.
The Rev. J. E. Englund, pastor of the Methodist church in Hastings, conducted the service with Mrs. Fred Lookabill ad Mrs. Henry Washburn accompanied by Mrs. Mark Bowen furnishing the music.
The same pall bearers officiated at his funeral as did at Mrs. Moore’s funeral a month ago. They are Charles Hall, Floyd Starr, Burdette Hunt, Ralph Hall, Ed Hunt and Glen Dalrymple. Also the same ladies, Mrs. Alta Hall and Mrs. Ralph Hall, were in charge of flowers.
The services were carried out much the same as for Mrs. Moore who preceded him in death a short time ago.
The following life sketch was read by their minister:
Clarence Willard Moore was born Aug. 12, 1868 on a farm about seven miles north of Hastings and has lived and labored within Mills county all his life.
He was married to Elizabeth J. Anderson March 9, 1892. Ten children came to bless this home and all but one are living today.
About nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. Moore left the farm and moved into their hoe in Hastings. In January, 1923 they were received into the membership of the Hastings Methodist church.
Mr. Moore has been in poor health the past few years and since his devoted wife went on just a month ago his health has failed noticeably. He passed away at the Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs June 24, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 14 days.
His departure is deeply mourned by the children: four sons and five daughters, Mark of Hastings, also Jim of this community, Elmo of Hermesten, Ore.; Eugene of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Grace Karsetter, Wood River, Ore., Mrs. Ruth Huntsman, Emerson, Mrs. Kate G. Saunto, Sioux City, Miss Amy T. Moore, Washington, D. C. , and Mrs. Bernice Austin, Des Moines; also four brothers, John of Silver City, Frank and George of Stockton, Calif., Fred of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three sisters, Mrs. A. L. Rook, Stratton, Neb., Mrs. C. L. Hund, Malvern and Mrs. Katie Howser, Silver City; and seven grandchildren, besides other relatives and a great number of friends.
“Shorty,” as he was generally called by his family and friends in the church, in the Odd Fellows lodge and throughout the community, shall be greatly missed by us all. The entire family in passing through these trying experiences merit out sincere sympathy and prayers.
