John M. Moore, son of John Shanklin Moore and Harriet Hency Moore, was born near Hastings, Iowa, May 27, 1883, and passed away November 24, 1960, at his home in Silver City, Iowa.

He was married to Alice Josephine Hooker in Glenwood, Iowa, on February 22, 1905. He moved to Silver City, Iowa, and with his family had spent his entire life here. He lived on a farm until 1946 when he was stricken with a nervous breakdown and asthma, after which he moved into town at Silver City and led a quiet life. He was cared for the last year by his sister, Mrs. Kate Howser. He was preceded in death by his wife, December 29, 1954.

Mr. Moore had been a member of the Masonic lodge since 1927, always taking an active part. He had an unusual ability to memorize so was able to assist many members who came to him for help in their work. He was a Past Master and Past Patron of the Masonic lodge and a member of the Eastern Star. Mr. Moore was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, and at one time was Past Noble Grand. He was also a member of the Rebekah lodge.

He leaves to mourn his loss, one son, Homer D. Moore of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three grandchildren, Randall I. Moore, Roswell, N. M., Donald R. Moore, Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Edson Tackett, Omaha; and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Cora Hunt, Malvern, Iowa, and Mrs. Kate Howser, Silver City; two brothers, George E. Moore, Stockton, Calif., and Frank R. Moore, Pamona, Calif. He is survived also by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Moore were held at the Silver City Methodist church on Saturday, November 26, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Merle Burress officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Harold Skerritt, Mrs. Ward Hunt and Mrs. John Swarts.

Flower ladies were the Mesdames Ralph Skerritt, Wilbert Bond, Clifford Schoening, Alfred Brandt, George Burgoin, and Loran Boyer. Usher was George Burgoin. Casket bearers were Allen Jones, Bill Hunt, Grover Goos, Russell Myers, Clifford Schoening and Ed Kruse.

Burial was in the Silver City cemetery at Silver City, with the Raynor-Hamilton chapel of Glenwood in charge.
