Grace Marie Byers, 97, of Glen Haven Nursing Home in Glenwood died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Peterson Mortuary. Burial was at the Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Grant Wiley officiating.

Mrs. Byers was born March 9, 1900, in Winnabago, Neb., to Seth and Sophia (Hawkins) Morgan. She was married to Murl C. Bird on October 16, 1917, in Omaha.

She was married to Fred Byers on June 10, 1948, in Council Bluffs. Mrs. Byers enjoyed crocheting and handwork. She was a member of First Christian Church in Glenwood.

Mrs. Byers was preceded in death by her first husband, Murl Bird; second husband, Fred Byers; one son, Frank R. Bird and parents. Survivors include three sons, Arthur G. Bird, Glenwood; Elvin H. Bird, Glenwood; Murl C. Bird, Jr., Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Alice Hobbs, LaMesa, Calif.; Orma J. Budd, Camanche; Janice Holland, Kansas City, Kan.; three sisters, Opal English, Dorothy Watt and Helene Rhoades; two brothers, Jim Morgan and Wilmer Morgan; 26 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Glen Haven Nursing Home.
