DATED APRIL 1981:

Mrs. Fern M. Watts, 80, Missouri Valley, died Tuesday at an Omaha hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Liberty, Neb.; lived a number of years in Glenwood and the past 30 years at Missouri Valley.

She and her husband, Abbie, had been married 63 years in December 1980.

Mrs. Watts was a member of Christian Church.

Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Keith Watts of Missouri Valley and Orval Watts of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Vivian Harrington and Auburn Bird both of Glenwood, and Iona Bird of Council Bluffs; a brother, Clifford Woodward; and a sister, Pansy Kotch, both of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard D. Hogan, pastor of First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Meyer’s.

Fern Mildred Woodward was born on October 23, 1900. She was the daughter of Floyd Woodward and Zadie (Ackerman) Woodward.

Abbie Watts and Fern were married on January 17, 1918.

They came to the Glenwood area around 1933. They farmed south of Glenwood, moving to the Tabor area in 1940. They later moved to Missouri Valley where Abbie worked as a carpenter.

Fern died on March 31, 1981 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Casket bearers at the funeral were her grandsons: Larry Harrington, Errol Bird, Clyde Bird, Richard Bird, Dennis Bird and David Watts.
