DATED OCT. 15, 1959:

Chester Owen, son of Lucian and Viola Johnson, was born at McPaul, Iowa, on June 22, 1886. He grew to manhood in that community.

He attended the St. Joseph Veterinary School and was graduated from there in 1916. Dr. Johnson soon located in Silver City continuing to serve that community as a veterinarian until just recently when his health made it necessary for him to give his work up.

His wife, Cora Mae Burger Johnson, died Sept. 10, 1911. She was the mother of Mildred and Glen. He later married Mae Hunt and she passed away in 1930, after bearing him two children, Kenneth and Wayne.

On October 10, 1933, Dr. Johnson was united in marriage to Grace Schroeder of Silver City.

Dr. Johnson was a member of the Silver City Methodist Church. He served his country in World War I as a lieutenant in the United States Army, spending 22 months overseas. Dr. Johnson was a member of Gordon May Post No. 439 of the American Legion. He was a member of Silver Light Lodge A. F. and A. M. No. 400 and also the Order of the Eastern Star.

He was a civic minded citizen and always interested in the improvement of his town. He served his community as mayor and also was a member of the town council.

After an illness of several months, he passed away in the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Neb., on Oct. 10, 1959, at the age of 73 years, three months and 18 days.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; his four children, Mrs. Mildred Aune of Minneapolis, Minn., Glen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kenneth of Oakland, Ia., and Wayne of Eagle Grove, Ia., 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Judge Vernon Johnson of Sidney, Ia., Dell Johnson of Loveland, Colo., and James Johnson of Ames, Ia.

Funeral services for Dr. Johnson were held at the Silver City Methodist Church Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Merle Burres officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs. John Swarts and Mrs. Ward Hunt, accompanied by Merlene Burres organist.

Ushers were Donald Burgoin and Shirley Hendrix. Active casket bearers were Alfred Brandt, Herman Schoening, Art Burgoin, Clifford Schoening, George Burgoin and Harold Williams. Flower bearers were Mrs. George Burgoin, Mrs. Clifford Schoening, Mrs. Alfred Brandt, Mrs. Ralph Hansen, Mrs. Harold Williams and Mrs. Harry Adams. Honorary organizations were Silver Light Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 400 and American Legion Gordon May Post No. 439. Honorary pallbearers were Grover Goos, Irvin Huffacker, Elton Landon, Russell Myers, Earl Bobbitt and Kenneth McMahan.

Burial was in the Silver City Cemetery with Raynor Funeral Home of Glenwood in charge.
