THE MALVERN LEADER
DATED JUNE 15, 1916

Etta Pearl Shamblen was born July 5, 1885, died June 8, 1916. She spent her girlhood days in Mills county, Iowa. February 14, 1906, she was united in marriage to Jesse Hummel, when they moved onto a farm near Imogene, living there seven years, and later moved to near Strahan, where they spent three years. Early this spring they moved to their present home at the east edge of Tabor. Thursday June 8th, she gave birth to twins, which was the cause of her death.

At the age of 20 years Mrs. Hummel was converted and united with the Methodist church at Essex, and remained faithful to her trust in God. She was a true wife and loving mother, always tenderly caring for her family. She leaves to mourn her death her husband Jesse Hummel and five little children, Ossie Floe, Franklin Thomas, Ruth Mae, Vera Lucy and one little baby boy; also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shamblen and four sisters, Mary Riffle of Missouri, Nellie Peterson of Hastings, Iowa, Velma and Anna, and eight brothers, Roy, George and Fred of California, Charley, Earl, Merrill, Harry and Lester, all of whom live near. All were present at the funeral except one sister, Mrs. Riffle and the three brothers in California. The funeral services were held from the home Sunday, June 11 and were conducted by Rev. M. A. Gable of the Malvern M. E. church.
