THE MALVERN LEADER
DATED NOV. 22, 1923, PG. 3

Pearle Frederick, youngest son of Jesse and Etta Pearl Hummel was born June 8th, 1916 on a farm near Tabor, Ia., and died Nov. 15th, 1923 at his home in Malvern, Ia. Freddie was an unfortunate child in that he never knew a real mother’s care, she having died when he was born. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Shamblen took him and tenderly cared for him when he was a tiny baby until he was large enough to take his place with his brother and three sisters. Little Fred grew to be a strong and lively boy and as always ready to join his friends and playmates in any kind of game or sport. But somewhere in the journey of life he contracted that dreaded epidemic, Diphtheria, which did its work quickly. His sickness lasted but six days. He did not complain of any pain and always thought he would get well. But God saw fit to call him home to Heaven. Although Freddie’s bright face shall be missed very much by all who knew him we will trust Divine Providence and that he is happier with his creator. What is our loss, is Heaven’s gain.

Brief funeral services conducted by Rev. J. E. Wilkins were held at the Malvern Cemetery Friday afternoon.
